Vortex Flow

Area within a blood vessel where the blood is suddenly accelerated, then rapidly decelerated. This would be commonly seen in blood passing through a vascular stenosis (narrowing), and becomes a factor in MRA.

Voxel

A voxel is a volume element (volumetric and pixel) representing a value in the three dimensional space, corresponding to a pixel for a given slice thickness. Voxels are frequently used in the visualization and analysis of medical data. The Magnetic Resonance Imaging MRI pixel intensity is proportional to the signal intensity of the appropriate voxel.

See also Volumetric Imaging.

Voxel Bleeding

Indicates cross talk of signal intensity from one voxel to an adjacent voxel in spectroscopic imaging. Up to 10% of a signal can appear in an adjacent voxel. These artifacts can be reduced by the Hanning filter.

(VSOP = very small superparamagnetic iron oxide particles) This new class of contrast agents with smaller particle size than SPIO offers advantages for MR angiography. SPIO particles are usually coated with an organic polymer such as dextran, carboxydextran or polyethylene glycol, which limits the minimal overall particle size that can be obtained. VSOP-C184 consists of an aqueous solution of superparamagnetic iron oxide particles with a citrate coating and the overall particle size of 4-8 nm.
Short name: VSOP-C184, central moiety: Fe, concentration: 29 g Fe/l, relaxivity: R1=20.1, R2=37.1, B0=0.94 T.
