Philips Medical System is the diagnostics business of Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands, one of the world's biggest electronics companies and Europe's largest. Philips is quoted on the NYSE (symbol: PHG), London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and other stock exchanges. On October 19, 2001, Philips Medical Systems completed a 3-year acquisition strategy through its purchase of Marconi Medical Systems. Marconi Medical Systems offered leading multislice CT, MRI, and Nuclear Gamma Camera systems to medical institutions around the world. As well as new 3.0T developments, Philips is also in collaboration with researchers at the University of Nottingham, with the intention of developing an ultrahigh field strength clinical 7.0T whole body MR system.

the AIRIS made its debut in 1995. Hitachi followed up with the AIRIS II system, which has proven equally successfully. 'All told, Hitachi has installed more than 1,000 MRI systems in the U.S., holding more than 17 percent of the total U.S. MRI installed base, and more than half of the installed base of open MR systems,' says Antonio Garcia, Frost and Sullivan industry research analyst. Now Altaire employs a blend of innovative Hitachi features called VOSIâ„¢ technology, optimizing each sub-system's performance in concert with the other sub-systems, to give the seamless mix of high-field performance and the patient comfort, especially for claustrophobic patients, of open MR systems.

GE Medical Systems and Amersham announced in April 2004 the completion of a share exchange acquisition of Amersham Health by GE. The result of this acquisition is the new GE Healthcare, based in the UK, totally owned by General Electric (GE).

Amersham plc, was a producer of contrast imaging agents used to enhance image quality in X-ray, magnetic resonance imaging, and ultrasound procedures. It was also a leading producer of radiopharmaceuticals used in nuclear medicine imaging. Amersham Health was the firm's imaging, diagnostics, and therapeutics segment. Amersham plc was involved in biotechnology research through its Amersham Biosciences unit, which made scanners, sequencers, microarrays, industrial separations, and other research supplies.

Swiss-based, formerly Bruker AG - split on the 5th October 2001 into the groups: Bruker Daltonics (Mass spectroscopy), Bruker Optics (Infrared spectroscopy), Bruker AXS (X-ray spectroscopy) and Bruker BioSpin (The largest part, the NMR business core, the EPR and the Tomography activities).
