(LITT) Laser induced thermo therapy is a therapeutically destruction of tumor or metastasis tissue with a thermolaser. Malignant tissue reacts very sensitive to heat. The heating of the malignant tissue results in a degeneration or coagulation and the death of the malignant cells by temperatures from 45 °C to 99 °C.
Induced thermal damage can be variable and unpredictable due to thermally induced changes in tissue thermal and blood perfusion. The affection can be controlled by thermo sensitive MRIsequences. The temperature can be monitored during the procedure and MR imaging following the procedure shows how effectively the tumor is damaged.
