2D / 3D MRI for brain tumors diagnosis
Hello

I am a research master student, my thesis on artificial intelligence and MRI in the process of diagnosing brain tumors, the objective is to determine the type of tumor in the image.

I have not found the advantages of using a 2D image in the diagnostic process instead of 3D images, since the 3D image is richer and can be copied into two dimensional slices as well.

What role does the 2D image play in the tumor diagnostic process ?

Help
Hello, I have been having extreme eye pain with visual disturbances which include flashes of light and sometimes double vision. I was told that my brain MRI was squeaky clean. However, out of curiosity, I looked at the images and found this one image that didn't sit right with me. I know it could mean nothing, but I was hoping to either get an answer or reassurance that everything really is ok. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help.

MRI-PDFF
I'm a research nurse conducting a clinical research study for Non Alcoholic Steatohepatosis in which an MRI-PDFF (Proton Density Fat Fraction) is required for study participants. How is this MRI different from a regular MRI? I have called multiple MRI locations in the area and no one seems to even know the existence of such a specialized MRI.

Internet research has led me to understanding that a specialized software is needed to calculate the PDFF from the MRI images but I'm not sure how that works.

If anyone has experience with conducting such an MRI or can point me in the right direction, I would be grateful.

When to shim?
you ask a complex question. Any sequence that is not a standard spin echo can benefit from shimming, but its not always worth it.

If you are scanning a knee in the center of the magnet, or nearly so, you might not see much difference in gradient echo scans, which in general are quite sensitive to shim problems. But if you are doing fat-water separation or fatsat images, you will see a difference even in this example.

Because hardware varies, its hard to say in one blanket statement for every case. For sure, do it on fatsat or fat-water imaging. The next most sensitive studies are off-center imaging such as shoulders. Beyond that, you should experiment a little. Of course, erring on the side of caution is a good idea.
