Hitachi Medical Systems America, Inc. (HMSA), was a major provider of magnetic resonance imaging systems in the United States. Hitachi had more than 2300 installed permanent magnet MR imaging systems worldwide. As a full-line supplier of medical imaging equipment in Japan, Hitachi Medical Corporation (HMC) founded HMSA to provide a direct link to the U.S. marketplace. Altaire™ , the open MR system from Hitachi, extends the family of open MRI products.

In December 2019 Japan's Fujifilm announced the acquisition of Hitachi's diagnostic imaging business for 179 billion yen ($1.63 billion). This includes Hitachi’s CT, MRI, X-ray, and ultrasound imaging operations, also its electronic health record business. Fujifilm expects the deal to close in July 2020 subject to regulatory clearances.

www.hologic.com Hologic's main businesses are osteoporosis assessment, mammography and breast biopsy. In September 2005 Hologic Inc. entered an exclusive distribution and service agreement for extremity MRI imaging systems manufactured by Esaote SpA (initial term of three years, with automatic 1-year renewal options). Under this agreement Hologic, Inc. distributes the C-Scan™, the Opera E-SCAN™ XQ and the S-Scan in the USA.

The uniformity of the main magnetic field measured in ppm. In a defined volume it is the difference between maximum and minimum field strength and this multiplied by 1 million.
In MR, the homogeneity of the static magnetic field is an important criterion of the quality of the magnet. Homogeneity requirements for MR imaging are generally lower than the homogeneity requirements for NMR spectroscopy, but for most imaging techniques must be maintained over a large region.
