MRI - Anatomic Imaging of the Ankle 3 |
The proton density weighted interactive image series wit fat suppression shows the anatomy of the ankle in the transverse plane from the calcaneum (sole of the foot, slice 1) to the distal fibula and tibia.
Proton density weighting confers to favorable signal to noise ratio which translates to high spatial resolution or thin slices.
Due to the fat saturation pulse, subcutaneous fat and fatty marrow are dark, which improves the contrast between bright fluids (e.g., edema) and other tissues. The fat suppression of the first slices is incomplete due to the asymmetric volume of the foot. | |
