(DQA) This MRI scan or MRI procedure is used by system operators to verify system operation based on relevant image quality parameters like e.g., SNR, slice thickness, geometric distortion, slice position, image resolution and ghosting.
The quality assurance should carry out according to instructions of the manufacturer, normally using the head coil. In addition, SNR can be measured monthly on a selection of commonly used coils.
Weekly recording of these parameters is recommended for clinical MRI machines, as this allows early detecting of deviations from acceptable limits. | | | | • View the DATABASE results for 'Daily Quality Assurance' (3).

The company is a leading manufacturer and developer of magnetic resonance imaging ( MRI) scanners.
The Patient Friendly MRI Company, formed in 1978, is engaged in the business of inventing, manufacturing, selling and servicing magnetic resonance imaging ( MRI) scanners. FONAR is the oldest MRI company in the world. After receiving hundreds of millions in a windfall from protecting their MRI patents, they made a MRI scanner that no other MRI manufacturer has. One that the patient stands in and they call Indomitable, the Stand-Up MRI. Patients like it because it is the least claustrophobic, most comfortable MRI on the market. Doctors like it because of its superior image quality and for the first time, the patient can be scanned in the weight-bearing position, or the position of pain or symptom. In October of 2004, the company changed the product name of the Stand-Up MRI to the Upright MRI. Fonar introduced the first "open" MRI scanner in 1980 and is the originator of the iron-core nonsuperconductive and permanent magnet technology.
MRI Scanners:

The field homogeneity is a very important factor for image quality. The field should be homogenous in the range of 1-10ppm over 30-50cm for high-quality imaging. | | | | • View the DATABASE results for 'Field Homogeneity' (11).

Quick Overview
A disturbance of the field homogeneity, because of magnetic material (inside or outside the patient), technical problems or scanning at the edge of the field.
When images were obtained in a progression from the center to the edge of the coil, the homogeneity of the field observed by the imaged volume, changes when the distance from the center of the volume increase.
The same problem appears by scanning at a distance from the isocenter in left-right direction or too large field of view.
There are different types of bad image quality, the images are noisy, distorted or the fat suppression doesn't work because of badly set shim currents.
E.g. by using an IR sequence, changes in the T1 recovery rates of the tissues are involved. The inversion time at the center of the imaged volume is appropriate to suppress fat, but at the edge of the coil the same inversion time is sufficient to suppress water. Since the inversion time is not changed, the T1 recovery rates will increase.
Image Guidance
Take a smaller imaging volume (and for fat suppression a volume shimming), take care that the imaged region is at the center of the coil and that no magnetic material is inside the imaging volume. | | | | • View the DATABASE results for 'Field Inhomogeneity Artifact' (3).
