When a multi shot technique is applied, each shot will have its own effect on the prepulse, with a scan time increase. Multiple shots allow a shorter IR delay but at the cost of increased scan time.
In multi shot technique (also called mosaic imaging), a group of samples, which are contiguous in k space are acquired in the same sequence repetition. The phase encoding steps or profiles are split into 'shots' (sub-acquisitions). The shot interval is the time between the shots. Usually kept as short as possible. Because the acquisitions are divided into different shots, each shot will have less T1 variation, thereby increasing T1 contrast. Two excitations, each requiring the data for one half of k-space, are the simplest variation of multi shot techniques (e.g. positive versus negative phase encoding).
The alternative to this mosaic strategy for multi shot EPI is interleaving. In interleaved sequences, each repetition acquires every nth (n is the number of shots) line in k-space and for the complete raw data set the various repetition data are interlaced.

NC100150 injection is the code name for an USPIO ( ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide) MRI contrast agent under development. Microvessel permeability depends on functional and morphologic characteristics of cancer vessels
and on physicochemical properties of the injected contrast medium molecule.
USPIO particles have a favorable pharmacological and tolerance profile and are being tested clinically of the potential for the quantitative
characterization of tumor microvasculature and specifically for measures of the microvessel permeability.
Iron-based products take advantage of their large molecular size, which prevents diffusion into body tissues. These agents are disposed of by the liver and spleen as particulate matter.
NC100150 Injection ( Nycomed Amersham, Amersham Health ) consists of USPIO particles that are composed of single crystals (4- to 7-nm diameter) and stabilized with a carbohydrate polyethylene glycol (PEG) coat. The iron oxide particles
have to be suspended in an isotonic glucose solution. The final diameter of an USPIO particle is approximately 20 nm. Blood pool half-life is more than two hours in humans; the particles are taken up by the mononuclear
phagocyte system and distributed mainly to the liver and spleen.
NC100150 would compete with the contrast agents Ferumoxytol from AMAG Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Vasovist™ from EPIX Pharmaceuticals, Inc., but at this time the development of NC100150 Injection/ Clariscan™ is discontinued. | | | | • View the DATABASE results for 'NC100150 Injection' (5).

MRI can be indicated for use in pregnant women if other forms of diagnostic imaging are inadequate or require exposure to ionizing radiation such as X-ray or CT.
As a safety precaution, MR scanning should be avoided in the first three months of pregnancy.
Similar considerations hold for pregnant staff of a magnetic resonance department. An epidemiological study (by Kanal, et al.) concluded that data collected from MRI technologists were negative with respect to any statistically significant elevations in the rates of spontaneous abortion, infertility and premature delivery.
However, also for psychological reasons, it might be a wise precaution that pregnant staff members do not remain in the scan room during actual scanning.
There have been several reports (results could not be reproduced) that static magnetic fields may provoke genetic mutations, changes in growth rate and leukocyte count and other effects.
No reports have been published that persons exposed to magnetic fields, including staff at MR departments, have a higher incidence of genetic damage to their children than found in the average population.
This research needs further investigation and for this purpose pregnancy should be considered a relative contraindication for MR spectroscopy and MRI procedures.
Taking into account that clinical MR imaging devices operate at field strengths of between 0.2 and 2.0 T, higher field strengths need more investigation.
